Is true bravery fighting until the bitter end? Or giving into one’s desires? Surrender is a new imaginative solo by Amber Funk Barton that portrays a tenacious fighter constantly defending herself upon a battlefield. Inspired by fencing, and the notion of acceptance and defeat, Surrender is at times comical yet a fanciful meditation and physically challenging work that whimsically explores what it means to be courageous and celebrates the strength of the human spirit.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Amber received her training with Goh Ballet Academy, Arts Umbrella, The Banff Centre Dance Training and Ballet British Columbia’s Mentor Programme. Upon completion of her training, she decided to establish herself as a professional dance artist in Vancouver and has danced for various companies and choreographers, such as Joe INK, LINK dance, Judith Marcuse Projects, Lola Dance, Marta Marta House of Pride, Mascall Dance, MovEnt, Battery Opera, Karen Jamieson Dance Company, MOVE: the company, Ruckus Company Productions, Mark Godden, Dana Gingras, Marla Eist, Jennifer Clarke, Emily Molnar, Wen Wei Wang, Cori Caulfield and Lina Fitzner. She has also been featured as a guest artist with the 605 Collective. In 2008, Amber established her own Vancouver-based contemporary dance company, the response. Original Music and Sound Marc is a Vancouver-based composer, sound designer, musician and songwriter. Beginning with the Royal Conservatory of Music and moving through to pop and experimental sounds, he has been creating music for over 25 years. Recent commissions include: Amber Funk Barton/the response (Surrender, The Art of Stealing, Caught In Amber, Portraits And Scenes Of Female Creatures), Hiro Kanagawa (Azano), Tara Cheyenne Performance (Porno Death Cult, Highgate), Peter Bingham/EDAM (Secret Life Of Trees, Promenade, City Of Crows, Reinventing The Curve, The Gentle Awkward and the Observer, life sentences..., The Contingency Plan (Las Tres Marias), Alvin Tolentino/Co. ERASGA (EXpose) and Firehall Arts Centre (Vimy). Jacob Cino
Jacob Cino is a Canadian born artist currently living in Trinidad to study Folkloric Dance. He is a multidisciplinary artist, dancer, painter, composer and DJ. He has been a professional dancer since 2003 and is trained in both contemporary forms, specializing in contact improvisation, and African forms. He has been composing electronic music for clubs, film and contemporary dance since 1994 under the name Third Eye Tribe. He first started painting as a teenager and at the age of 19 had his first solo show. He then traveled to Asia for a year, painting as he went. He has maintained the artist’s path ever since, diversifying his talent and mediums.
Jacob Cino est un artiste canadien vivant actuellement à Trinidad, où il étudie la danse folklorique. Artiste pluridisciplinaire, danseur, peintre, compositeur et DJ, il fait carrière comme danseur professionnel depuis 2003 et a reçu une formation en danse contemporaine, avec spécialisation en contact improvisation, et en danse africaine. Il compose de la musique électronique pour des clubs, pour le cinéma et pour la danse contemporaine depuis 1994, sous le nom de Third Eye Tribe. Won-Kyoon Han
Won-Kyoon Han has worked as a stage lighting designer and head electrician since 1998. He studied acting, directing, and theory at the undergraduate and graduate levels at Cheongju University, South Korea. During this time he also worked with several professional lighting teams. After completing his MA in Drama, he moved to Canada to further expand his career. He entered the Theatre Technical Production program at Sheridan College, in Ontario, to experience a Canadian theatrical working environment. Recently, he graduated in MFA Theatre Design program from University of British Columbia (UBC). Won-Kyoon has designed in both Korea and Canada. His recent lighting designs include: Killing A Salesman (Seoul Fringe Festival, 2009), Sarah - 0 (Seoul Theatre Festival, 2011), The Vane and The Lost Office (100 Theatre Festival, 2011), and Super Hero (Patchwork family, 2012) in Korea, and Amadeus (Sheridan Theatre,
