2 Intensity Strip Chart and intensity instant value The pin diode provides the intensity of the beam in real time, the scrolling chart auto scale with the maximum value read, the current intensity value is at the far right of the scrolling chart:

Left click on the chart to start/stop the scrolling.

3 Starting the Auto Alignment To start the auto alignment procedure, simply click on the button:

A pop up menu appear on the button and asks you for confirmation. If the shutter is not open, the procedure will open it and warn you in the messages view. When the procedure ends, a dialog window will appear:

As soon as the procedure starts, the following button appears :

Click on the Abort button to abort the procedure. It will also close the shutter. A message will be displayed in the messages view to confirm the action.

Note: The Manual Controls and the Scan Start buttons are disabled during the procedure.

4 The manual control panel 4.1 Presentation The Manual Control panel allows to move each motor separately and to control the shutter. Moreover it provides a global view of the instruments and their state. Click on “Manual Control” tab button to access the manual control panel:

4.2 The instruments picture The instruments picture provides a complete view of the hardware available:

Features in the instruments picture view:  Click on the label of an item to select it; once selected, the item’s color will change. Information, such as the position range and the current position for a motor will appear in this label.  Keep the left mouse pressed on a label to drag it and place it at a different location on the picture.  Right click on the instruments picture to: A menu will appear on the picture to show/hide items.

Align Optics Module for StructureStudio™ User Manual Rigaku Americas Corporation If you want to customize the view, this menu allows you to show/hide items’ label on the instruments picture.  Underneath the instruments picture, a slider adjusts the transparency of the instruments picture.

4.3 Motors control The motors control panel can be used to drive the motors clockwise or counterclockwise, or to reset the motor to its default position:

Move the motor clockwise Move the motor counterclockwise

Home the motor (Available only for motors with encoders)

If you select a motor on the instruments picture, it will be also selected on this panel: the color of the name’s label will change, and similarly, if you select a motor on this panel it will be selected on the instruments picture.

To change the default speed of a motor, use this panel:

4.4 Shutter control The shutter control allows opening or closing the shutter at any time, when the shutter status changes, a message appears in the messages view. To open the shutter, a pop up menu will appears and ask for a confirmation.

 You do not have to open the shutter with this button before starting the auto alignment procedure as the software will do it for you.  You do not have to open the shutter with this button before starting a new scan: the software will do it for you.

5 Data acquisition panel 5.1 Presentation The data acquisition panel allows to get and manage intensity profiles for all the available motors. To access the data acquisition panel, click on the “Data Acquisition” tab button:

5.2 Starting a new profile Use this panel to start a new profile:

   

Select a motor in the list Select a start and a stop position with the dedicated sliders and/or text area Select a step size Click on the “start” button

Align Optics Module for StructureStudio™ User Manual Rigaku Americas Corporation The progress bar informs on the advancement of the scan, you can click on the “stop” button at any time to cancel the scan. Note: The manual control panel is disabled during a scan.

5.3 Usage of the profile history Each new profile will be added to the profiles history:

The history is a tree that sorts the profiles in a folder: each folder corresponds to a motor.  Click on a profile to select it  Double click on a profile to rename it  Right Click on a profile to access the advanced options menu:

 “Change this curve color”: open a color chooser form:

Align Optics Module for StructureStudio™ User Manual Rigaku Americas Corporation Pick a color and click “Ok” or click “Cancel”.  “Edit Profile Name” opens a window to change the name of the selected profile:

Edit the name of the profile and click “Ok” or click on “Cancel”.  “Delete this profile”: remove the profile from the curve view and from the history. You cannot recover a deleted profile.  “Save the profile as a picture” opens a classical “Save file” window and allows to save the curve of the profile as a jpeg or a bitmap file.  “Print the profile” opens a classical “Print” window and allow printing the curve of the selected profile.  Remove/Add this profile to the view allows to respectively add or remove the selected profile to/from the curves view.

5.4 Profiles information Underneath the profiles history is the profiles information panel, relative to the selected profile:

This panel contains:  The name of the profile.  A thumbnail picture of the selected profile.  A toolbar with various options relative to the profile (please refer to the description of the profiles history for more information about those buttons).  The maximum intensity value of the profile  The minimum intensity value of the profile  The average intensity value of the profile  The Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM) of the profile – if it was possible to compute it  The integrated intensity of the profile

5.5 Usage of the curves view The curves view displays profiles curve. When you start a new scan, its curve will be automatically added to this view and you will be able to see the evolution in real time.

   

Click on a curve to select it. Middle click on a curve to mark a point on it You can scroll over the curves using the “Tab” key or the vertical scrollbar. Press “Delete” key to remove a curve from the view (it won’t be removed from the profiles history)

5.6 Managing a curve You can manage a profile and its curve by using the profiles tree as describes in the 5.3 part. Right click on a curve for the advanced options:

We will describe here the options specific to the curve. For the profiles options, please refer to the 5.3 part.

5.6.1

Clear the points

The “Clear the points” item will remove all the marked points on the curve. (To add a point on a curve: click on it with the middle button of the mouse).

5.6.2

Open the curve in a new window

Click on this item to open the curve in a dedicated large window, it will allow you to manage the curve in a comfortable view.

5.6.3

Use a point of the curve

If you drag the mouse over the selected curve, an indicator will appear showing you the intensity and the motor position at this point:

Click on the curve to select a point, the selected point will appears on the dedicated panel at bottom of the screen:

 Click on “Set start position” to set the start position for the next scan to this point.  Click on “Set stop position” to set the stop position for the next scan to this point  Click on “Set motor position” to set the motor position to this point

This panel could be useful to run a new scan in a specific area of a previous scan.
