elcome to the 7th annual Canadian Cinema Editors Awards! Tonight, we are once again very proud to be honouring Canada’s finest editors. This is a special year for the CCE – it is our 10th anniversary. Our organization has ascended its critical formative years and become, well, a Tween. And to true to tween-hood, we have begun to grow like wildfire. Not only are our traditional strongholds of Toronto and Vancouver expanding, but also bases in Halifax and Edmonton are unifying, and editors are joining across the country to be part of this magnificent group, which is dedicated to promoting the art and science of picture editing in Canada. The long awaited inclusion of our colleagues in Montréal is underway. Over the past year we have further connected with the city’s editors. Full memberships were offered to some of their finest, our national rate survey was made available in both French and English, and we will be sponsoring a best editing award at one of their premier festivals. Nation-wide, we continue to offer our workshops, panels and discussions. We are sponsoring an even greater number of film festivals in Toronto, Vancouver and Halifax as well. And, we have broken new ground with innovative and interactive content on our social media front, opening up the discussion around editing and letting the world know who we are. By promoting and bettering the art and science of picture editing, the CCE is setting the highest standards to attract and maintain international and domestic post-production, and have us known for our world class editing.

We thank the editors from across Canada that submitted their work. They laboured artfully, lovingly and diligently to turn terabytes of raw media into opuses of light and sound. It was through their persistence, collaborative dialogue, and trial and error that final decisions were made on how to best tell the story. We owe our deepest gratitude to our sponsors - these awards would not have been possible without their extremely generous support. We are indebted to our awards committee who, despite busy edit schedules, committed tireless hours to making this event a reality. We offer many thanks to all our event volunteers, to our board of directors for steering this ship year-round and keeping us up to date with new ideas and initiatives, and to our 380 strong member base for all their support. We are proud to be editors, we are proud to be Canadian, so keep your eyes on us because the best is yet to come. Editors of Canada, we salute you!

Une lettre du président et vice-président
B

airin (also known as Mo) was born in England and came to Canada in 1969 with her young family. She studied film in the Faculty of Fine Arts at York University and then worked professionally in the burgeoning film and television industry as a picture editor, story editor, post-production supervisor and teacher. As a dramatic picture editor she was involved with many award-winning productions; the two mini-series Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Green Gables – The Sequel each won many international awards and Geminis. Anne of Green Gables won a primetime Emmy for Outstanding Children's Program in 1986. Mairin and James Lahti each earned

Gemini nominations for best picture editing on both shows. Other acclaimed shows she has worked on include Butterbox Babies, Jane of Lantern Hill, Isaac Littlefeathers, Clown White, Under the Piano, Seasons of Love, Anne of Green Gables – The Continuing Story, Happy Christmas Miss King, and The Lawrenceville Stories. As a series editor, Mairin’s credits include seven seasons of The Road to Avonlea, six seasons of Wind at my Back, War of the Worlds and Adderly. She has also edited many documentaries, corporate documentaries and music videos. Mairin was the associate producer in charge of production on season two of The Road to Avonlea and story editor on season five. She spent two years as a course director at York University’s Department of Film and Video, teaching the 4th year graduating class. Mairin is recognized throughout the editing community for her wonderful mentoring; many editors once made their way through her edit room as assistant or intern. Her watchful eye helped guide these people to a better understanding of the craft and the business.
