For my bracelet, I used a 3/4" strip of about 6 once leather. I left 3/4" on each end of the strap for a snap or fitting of your choice for a closure. Punch holes, about 1/8" apart, the length of the strap. The hole should be large enough to allow 4 strands of the lacing material to pass through. The 2 end holes need to be slightly larger to allow 8 to 10 passes to go through. when back braiding the start of the braid. I used 1/8" lace and 1/8"holes in the middle and 3/16" holes on each end. For an 8" bracelet, I used 8 feet of lace. Start the lace through the rear of the first hole and over the top edge and back through the rear of the 6th hole. leave about 10", of the standing end of the cord, not pulled through to the front side. This will be used for the back braiding the start of the braid. you will see why as you continue with the braiding.

02

The lace now goes to the left back over the edge and through the rear of the 2nd hole to the front side.

03

The strand is now shown going under the first loop to the rear and back to the front from the 7th hole.

04

Now showing the lace from the front side of the 7th hole to the rear of the 3rd hole and passing to the front side.

05

Now the lace from 3rd hole goes under 2 stands on its way to the back side and through the next empty hole, to the front.

06

From the front to the back and over 3 strands to the 4th and through to the front again.

07

This time it's under 3 strands to the rear and through the next empty hole to the front side again.

08

Now we go from front to back and over 3 strands and under 1 before going back to the front side.

09

We have now started the pattern that you see in the finished bracelet. On the front side it is now over 1 and under 3 to the rear. On the rear side it is over 3 and under 1 and back to the front.

10

Showing the strand from the front going over 3 and under 1 and back through the 5th hole to the front for the second time.

11

This shows the front going over 1 and under 3 and to the back side again. The pattern continues this way all the way to the end now. From the front side, over 1 and under 3 and over the edge to the back and through the next empty hole to the front again. This time from the front side it is over the edge to the back and over 3 and under 1 and back through the hole to the front again

12

Showing the continuing pattern from the back.

13

Showing the continuing pattern from the front.

14

Start doing the back braid now to finish what we missed in the original starting. Take the 10" piece, from the backside of the 1st hole, over the edge to the front and over 3 and under 1, then through the hole to the rear

15

It is now over 1 and under 3 then over the edge to the front side and back through 1st hole to the rear again.

16

Shown here we have made another cycle over 3 under 1 and to the back again.

17

Continue with the over 1 under 3 back to the front side again and through the 1st hole to the rear.

18

Continue in the same manner of over and under what is left to complete the cycles. The last couple of cycles will not always have 3 to go over or under so decrease what you need to, to keep a uniform look. You know when it looks right or wrong so change what you feel needs changed till you are happy with it.

19

Your last pass from front to rear.

20

Hide your strand now and the back braid is complete.

21

Now to finish off the end of the braiding. The last hole will be gone through multiple time in the process.

22

Second pass in the last hole.

23

The same over 3 under 1 and through the hole to the front.

24

The same over 1 under 3 and over the edge to go through the 1st hole to the front again.

25

The same over 3 under 1 and through the hole to the front.

26

Over 1 and only 2 to go under this time.

27

Time to hide your lace again to finish the 1st half of the braiding.

28

Finished 1st half of project

29

The difference in the second is that you have to start it just opposite as the first half. The first half started with the lace coming through the 1st hole from the rear and over the top edge into the 6th hole and back to the front . The second half started with the lace coming through the 1st hole from the front and over the top edge into the 6th hole and back to the rear. This time you have to make sure the lace coming back to the front crosses under the laces on the back side instead of the front side as before. This has to be this for the chevron pattern to form. If you start it the same way as the 1st half, you will just get a diagonal pattern. Try it both ways, if you like, to see how it come out.
