About the Yunlin International Puppet Arts Festival As the homeland of traditional puppet arts in Taiwan, Yunlin possesses many puppet schools and they are still relatively active today. The International Puppet Arts Festival, founded by the Cultural Affairs Department of the County Government in 1999, has grown into an internationally acclaimed event that has successfully given Yunlin the reputation as a culturally rich province in the international arena.
Traveling in Yunlin Te m p le o f t h e T h r e e M o u n t a in K in g s The Three Mountain Kings refer to the mountain gods of Jinshan, Mingshan and Dushan, which are worshipped in the Jieyang District of China's Guangdong Province. During the Kangxi Period of the Qing Dynasty, a man from Guangdong brought the deities to Taiwan, where today they are worshipped by the Hakka people. Ta ip in g S t r e e t Taiping Street is 600 meters long. What sets it apart from other "old streets" of Taiwan is that it is totally in the style of the Japanese occupation era. Taiping Street has buildings from the Meiji, Taisho and Showa eras. Most buildings are in the Baroque style and all are 2 stories or higher. The first two stories in every building are adorned and decorated with carving, such as patterns of dragon and phoenix. Ta iw a n Te m p le M u s e u m The Taiwan Temple Museum teaches Taiwanese religious and social development. In its halls are religious artifacts and remnants and information about temple construction, providing an actual look at the history of Taiwanese religious beliefs.
