2 Heath-Hodsoll folk In spite of the disparaging description of William Heath in [Stent] as a gambler and spendthrift, he won the hand of a lady from Kent named Elizabeth Hodsoll. She gave him, first, a home named Sundridge Court, on the road between Westerham and Sevenoaks (see item 1-8, page 12). Then she provided him with eight children, to occupy the estate.

Portraits Nicholas Heath (in Melbourne) once sent me the following portraits:

Item 2-1: Portraits of William Heath and a lady, with coats of arms. Chapter 2

In an earlier version of the present document, I had imagined that the lady was Fanny Seymour, and I even tried to analyze her coat of arms. I was totally off the mark. Nicholas Heath finally obtained photos of the original portraits (in the possession of Mark Stent in Hampshire) from which these amateurish miniatures were copied, and it turned out that the lady in question was not Fanny Seymour, but rather Elizabeth Hodsoll.

Item 2-2: William Heath [1760-1840]. Chapter 2

Item 2-3: Elizabeth Hodsoll.

One has the impression that the wife is much older than her husband, but this is surely nothing more than an illusion brought about by the time gap between the respective dates at which the portraits were painted, which I ignore.
